The company Elan in Wettenberg

Within the Schmersal Group, Elan Schaltelemente GmbH & Co. KG is the competence centre for:

• switchgear for the operation and monitoring of special interlocking devices

• safety relay modules

• programmable electronic systems with safety function

• safety-oriented radio technology

• explosion-protected devices

Elan has a wealth of experience and broad-based know-how in these areas. Back in the 80's the company, established in 1952, developed switchgear with a human protection function. In the same way as Schmersal, Elan can therefore be viewed as a pioneer of safety technology for mechanical engineering and plant construction.

Around 170 employees work in the production and administrative headquarters erected in 2001, generating turnover of some € 22 million in 2006. The export quota is just under 40% and good use can be made of the close-knit worldwide sales network of the Schmersal Group for customer service. apan is the main export market for Elan, followed by Switzerland, the Netherlands, the USA and Austria. Disproportionately high growth rates are currently being recorded in the markets of East Asia.
