Application:
The PROTECT-PSC control system is used in complex individual machines and in small to medium sized integrated production systems.
Protect-PSC is suitable for the safe analysis and interconnection of several safety-oriented signals such as emergency stop command devices, guard monitoring devices, AOPDs or safety sensors of the Schmersal type series CSS and to process standard operational input and output signals.
Design and mode of operation:
A main advantage of Protect-PSC is its modular structure. In addition to a CPU module, a system may be put together of up to 16 individual modules from 7 different input/output modules. The basic configuration (power and CPU module) provides 8 safe inputs and 6 safe outputs. In the maximum configuration (16 modules) applications of the control category 4 to EN 954-1, Performance Level e to EN ISO 13849-1 and Sil 3 to IEC 61508 can be realised from a combination of 248 safety-oriented input or output signals.
PROTECT-PSC offers two different types of signal interconnection. Firstly, all I/Os can be inter-allocated via a freely programmable operating mode. Secondly, it is possible to shut down different areas only as a result of external wiring without the need for programming. Furthermore, operational PLC functionalities can be realised using PROTECT-PSC by corresponding I/O modules on the same platform.
